If you click on the picture it will get bigger and you can see yourselves!!! We all look swell..good job Roger! We will be figuring out the best way to share all of the pictures in a couple of weeks. Please be patient and if you took pictures please just hold on to them until we decide how best for all to share.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the planning and organizing of the TWHS reunion, not to mention all the people who attended. It did my heart good to reconnect with high school friends, as well as to connect for the first time with those I didn't know in high school! We all contributed--be in small or big ways--to the people we are today. I can look back now on those years with even more fond memories than when I left. What a blessing that is! Thank you to everyone for making the reunion a memorable and meaningful event. Carole Wilson

Well kids..we really are working on getting the pictures ready for you. Last night the following took place...thought you might enjoy our e-mail sillyness that went on this morning.... since the blog has slowed to a crawl..Terry D

From Elaine:

Tonite, Jan and Terry were coming over to go over the pictures, weed out the bad ones (of just us so we'd look better than the other women (kidding)), and put names to all we could. They were due to arrive together about 5:15 or so, but in separate cars, with TD leading of course. About 5:15, I get a call from Jan. "I was supposed to take the last free exit and stay to the left, but there wasn't a left and I ended up on the turnpike." "Where's Terry ?", I asked her. "She told me to meet her, but I was ahead of her and ... I had to take a ticket and everything!". Knowing this area quite well and trying to understand which direction she went on the turnpike was a challenge, to say the least.

"Jan", I asked her, "did you vear to the right instead of the left, and curve back west?" "NO", she answered, "there was no left". I asked her..."are you headed east or west?" "I DONT KNOW....EAST...I'm headed east...." "Jan", I asked, "is the sun in front of you or behind you?" "It is in front of me, well...it's not exactly in front, but sort of to the side"...."OK Jan, you are not headed east, you are headed west. It's late afternoon, the sun goes down in the west." "No I'm not, well, maybe I am...how did I do that?" "Nevermind" I told her, "this is a good thing, as you don't need to drive all the way to Lawrence and back, only to south Topeka toll booth and back to my house." I remained calm as she was in hysterics and stayed on the phone with her most of the way here, ...."take the first right after the toll, Jan, and then turn right on Topeka BLVD and go to 45th." "But 45th is closed!" "I know, Jan, but I'm going to take you thru the barrier and on to my house." She made it, and arrived just a minute or two after Terry.

There were many fun laughs thru the night looking at pictures and re-living the nights of the reunion. At the end, Jan needed to use the restroom, and then Terry and I heard screams coming from there. Apparently, there was a wasp and she is highly allergic and carries an epi-pen. She is screaming and I'm thinking, just hit the damn thing, quit being a wimp...Terry goes to her rescue, Jan sneaks out of the bathroom as she is hyperventilating. Terry gets the door shut and all I hear is banging in the bathroom. I don't know what she was using to try to kill the wasp, and have not yet checked for damages...may get a new bathroom remodel job out of this one. Hope you all are having as much as the three of us. Sorry you couldn't have been here for the fun and laughs. Oh, and you missed a mighty fine home cooked meal....don't do that often and will probably here about it from Rick, but I did make enough of it for him and some for leftovers....Aren't I swell?

From Charlie T's Penny:

Oh my God, that is so funny!! I'm home with a headache today, so that gave me a laugh that was so needed. I'll make sure Charlie reads it! We'll be around on Saturday for the fiesta. Are there any plans for that? P

From Jan:

OK, I should have known Elaine or Terry would "tell on me" - so I was having a blonde day....those seem to be getting more frequent lately! FYI....I followed Terry's instructions perfectly on getting to Elaine's....I got off the interstate at the "last free exit" like she told me to do. She did mention something about going right and then going left BUT I didn't see anything to the left and had nowhere to go but the turnpike booth. I did what any normal person would do....I called Terry in a panic knowing I'd done something wrong. NOW, if she would have told me there was a "split" in the road and you could go either right or left AFTER the initial right I would have been fine....maybe.

In the last few weeks I've been in a car accident (still don't have my own car back), got thrown from a cliff by All Night Man and was a bloody mess, was attacked by a killer wasp in Elaine's bathroom last night and couldn't remember where my Epi-Pen was....not unusual when you're fearing for your life! Then I fled the bathroom and Terry took over with a towel in her hand and slammed the door. She must have smacked that wasp to pieces with all the noises coming through the bathroom wall.....we now know a wasp is NO match for Terry!

As for being directionally challenged, Terry decided it was from birth, kind of a defect from my Mom. I think I skipped some classes in school where they teach north, south, east, west and I had absolutely NO idea where the sun rose and set.....wonder what class that information was in?

Elaine cooked a wonderful dinner for us and we ate on the patio by the pool....it was lovely and delicious! We did our editing of pictures and laughed alot. I FOLLOWED Terry to some gas station on Croco Road and she showed me where 29th Street was. I'm happy to report I got on the right street and took 29th all the way home.....made it all by myself....."so there" to all you skeptics who think I "can't get anywhere!"

P.S. Penny....sorry you're home with a headache....hope to see everyone at the Fiesta but I'm waiting to hear if I have to babysit my grandkids.....

From Elaine:

I don't know which worried me most.....knowing you two were in the bathroom together and seeing Jan come screaming out of the bathroom with her pants down to her ankles, or hearing the walls of my bathroom get hammered with something...both a scarey visual. I think I had enough laughs last night to keep my immune system healthy for at least a month.

From Jim C.

Jan,

Terry D. Cc'd me about the getting lost on the turnpike story and the wasp in the bathroom. Funny stuff, but also serious, about you being allergic to wasp stings.

For your info, I know some other people who have missed that "last" free exit going eastbound on I-70 before the tollbooth. If a person is not watching the overhead signs, confusion sets in.

Maggie is directionally challenged, also. One time when she and our two kids were coming back from visiting her sister in Colorado, she got on I-70 going the wrong way. Our son, Michael, who was about 10 at the time, said... "Mom, if were are heading back to Kansas, how come the mountains ARE getting closer?" So Jan, it is NOT a blonde thing!! Jim C

From TD:

'Did she ever return,
No she never returned
And her fate is still unlearn'd
she may ride forever
'round the streets of Topeka
She's the blond who never returned!!'

' Here I come to save the day'.....just like Mighty Mouse-------The wasp is dead in the bathtub. Elaine you may want to clean the bathroom....Jan was laughing or screaming so much and trying to wipe, run and pull up her 'drawers' at the same time....I swated it(the wasp not Jan's butt) with the towel and it's mashed under the lotion bottle in the bottom of the tub.....I don't think I broke anything. Good thing it was a wasp and not a June Bug....the only creature that scares the hell out of me!!

From Jan:

Thank you for sticking up for me Jim....at least "someone" understands directionally challenged people! I have a hard enough time reading the signs on the ground let alone the overhead signs which is why I never get where I'm supposed to be going! Tell Maggie we'll have to take a trip together......should be fun since we'll have absolutely no idea where we'll end up!

RE: the wasp stings.....you'll soon learn I'm allergic to EVERYTHING....always carry my Epi-Pen but don't think I could stab myself if necessary.....have trained everyone here at work what to do just in case! I'm sure Elaine or Terry could have stabbed me last night over the commotion I was causing....but we now know how quickly I can exit from "sitting on the potty" and leave the "killing" in Terry's capable hands. Cute little "song" by the way, Terry.....you know you couldn't live without me to add dizziness and drama to your life!

Jan

( PS...Jan has lived here forever and is a City of Topeka employee...sort of gives you something to think about now doesn't it? Good thing she is cute, fun, has a heart of gold and is a good sport. I gave her perfect directions...she just didn't follow them or wait for me and yes, Elaine's dinner was wonderful.)

FYI...there are some of us going to the Fiesta in Topeka on Saturday night at 5:00..all are welcome to join us!! And...we are getting closer to having the pics to you...even with the three of us being a bit "challenged"...CBW did seem to help!!!!

Ah, another Kingston Trio fan: The original Kingston Trio. I thought I just might be the only one left.

I sounds like Jan needs to get herself a seeing-eye hunk.

Roger

PS. Your right, this blog has slowed way down. Just doing my part to get some life back into it.

Well hi Roger...surely someone has something interesting to "blog about" but us...and yes...I'm a Kingston Trio fan...and Brewer and Shipley(sp) too...wasn't their claim to fame.."One Toke Over the Line" ? Of is my memory completely gone??? That was great "coffee house" music! I was living in CO in those days and hanging out in Breckenridge and Evergreen before all the t-shirt shops and condos ruined them. That was when those towns were all hippies and dogs and beer and lift tickets were cheap!

Roger, if you can get Jan a "seeing eye hunk" can you find me one that dances???

The pictures have been loaded to Picasa....whooo whooo however...we are still playing with the site...some of the photos did not load (sure it is NOT user error)so if you want to view what is there...be patient...here is what you type to access the photos:
http://picasaweb.google.com/TWHS.Class.of.68
If you go to the end of the files, there is a link on the bottom right that says RSS, if you click on it, it will open up the pictures showing the filenames which have those classmates names that are most prominent and/or that we could determine. You may play and print and teach us what you know. Thank Terry Diaz Dykstra's friend Pam, Charlie Thompson's sweetie Penny, and our best friend, aka photo genius Roger Wood for the great photos. Elaine, having figured out how to crop out fat arms, double chins, white out unmentionables, and add cleavage where needed, will gladly attempt to edit any photo of your choosing. If you have photos you would like to add, please do so, however Elaine or Terry D would like to have editorial privileges prior to loading.

Hi All!

Please refer to the story above about Terry D and I in the bathroom...with the wasp...at Elaine's house and you will understand what I am about to write.

Poor Charlie called me this morning...frantic....needing me to come to his rescue...fast...with my Epi-Pen. For those of you who are not familiar with an Epi-Pen, it is for people who have allergies or are allergic to wasp or bee stings....it is a plastic cylinder auto injector which contains a syringe and a dose of epinephrine to use during an allergic emergency.

It seems Charlie is cleaning Elaine's deck...moved a flower pot...and was attacked by KILLER wasps. They were after him....he was stung twice....hence the need for the Epi-Pen. He moved to the other end of the deck and KILLER bees began attacking him. During all this commotion he found a half dozen or so boxes of CBW (cheap boxed wine) hidden in the beautiful gardens surrounding Elaine's pool. He decided Elaine, Terry D, and I had been having quite a few parties while trying to name the pictures on the picasa website and demanded that we quit playing and start working. So.....with his demand ringing in my ears....and his laughter when he read about MY wasp experience....I decided to leave him on Elaine's deck to fight off the killer wasps and bees by himself.

As I write this I am pondering the idea of calling him...or just leaving him to fight off the flying insects by himself. If I were a betting person, I'd say he found a half empty box of CBW and is nursing his wounds instead of cleaning the deck. Elaine will be home for lunch....wonder where and if she'll find Charlie!

OK...i screwed up...what's new. The instructions given to view the names on the pictures were incorrect. If you click on the picture to view it larger size, on the right there is something to click on that says "more info" and it is underlined and in blue. If you click on it, the file name comes up along with the camera type and all the other info that only photo genius' know and understand like Roger W. Charlie mentioned uploading our photos to Walgreen's site since there are Walgreen's everywhere and it is easy to order prints from. After I get all the photos in from Amy and Linda M and anyone else that sends them (deadline say Aug 10th?) I'll get this done.

Oh, Roger..the cookies are on the way, mailed them Monday...sorry but the chocolate in the chips had already started melting...must have been my hot new (used) car....ha ha. The others should be great, one of my better recipes.

AND...once you click on the picture...and it gets bigger and you see to the right all the tech mumbo jumbo (sorry Roger) including the file name-which is the main people in the picture as best we could do- if you just click on the blue arrows above the picture they all come up that way and you can see the file name for each picture as you view it. (Eventually we'll all get this figured out..maybe!)

I am looking for a Paula McKenzie who had a brother named Scott. Her father'sname was Nolan and they lived in Topeka. She made a trip to Canada in mid 60's. If anyone has info on her please send please comment

Debbie Crawford said...

Oh Dear, I'm sorry to say that Paula McKenzie died many years ago in an accident, early '70's. My foggy sketchy memory remembers something about her working at a scout camp and either riding in a jeep or driving it along a steep narrow road. Don't know the exact details but seems that she or the driver were trying turn the jeep around or back it down the road and it rolled backwards off the road and down the embankment.
Her parents may still live in Topeka. Might check a Topeka phone book. They were also members of the First Presbyterian church there where I went as a kid. I remember Paula and was friends with her back then, but we lost touch after high school. I hope someone else reads your inquiry and has more details. I'd suggest posting your question under the "45th Reunion-Here We Go Again" as that is where most people will be looking for new updates this time around. Good Luck in your search for Scott.
